Having an open MRI doesn’t have to be an overwhelming experience. In fact, an open MRI NJ is a common procedure that is critical to diagnose several conditions. Approximately 30 million MRI scans are completed in the United States every year, and 6.6 million of those are for head scans. By allowing your radiologist to utilize an open MRI machine to rule out any conditions for you, the MRI will produce 3D images that can be viewed at multiple angles.

How to Prepare
Upon scheduling your MRI, you will receive instructions on how you should prepare for the procedure. You will be asked to stop eating two or three hours before your procedure. There’s not typically any major precautions to take beforehand. If you are pregnant or have any suspicion you may be pregnant; you will need to refrain from an MRI for the first three months unless it’s necessary. Additionally, you will need to remove all jewelry before your procedure as it could interfere with some of the images.

What to Expect
During the procedure, you will be asked to stay still, so the radiology images will come out clear. Each series of images will take approximately 15 minutes to complete. Some people need two to six series before finishing the procedure. The amount of time and images it takes depends on the clarity of the images and what the images are trying to capture on the open MRI machine.

Facts You Should Know
If a doctor recommends an MRI at a treatment center, you shouldn’t put it off. In 2015, it was estimated that there would potentially be 231,840 new cases of invasive breast cancer. Without proper testing at radiology imaging centers, it’s almost impossible to rule out breast cancer. Cancer and heart disease are almost always caused by genetic damage and to determine if a patient has either of these conditions, an MRI may be necessary. Technology has come a long way, and because of the advance, longevity is possible, but a patient must get the testing done as needed, such as an open MRI, when their doctor suggests.
