Taking care of our skin is extremely important. I recently attended one of those make up parties that are thrown by independent contractors of a particular brand and most of the talk was regarding skin care. It’s amazing how much people do not use professional skin care products to take care of their skin. On top of that, they really don’t understand the benefits. According to the research done by the particular brand that threw the party, at 27 years old our skin begins to stop producing collagen. This is what causes most of the aging in our skin; wrinkles, sagginess, etc. Nobody at the party realized that and you probably didn’t either. However, there are things that we can do to increase collagen and other nutrients that our skin desperately needs especially as we age. Drug store brands work for awhile but professional skin care products are really what we need to get the job done properly. Good skin care routines begin at home but it doesn’t have to consist of high end private label cosmetics. Some of the best anti aging products are very afforadable. Here are a few things that we can do to prevent the aging process.
- Use Collagen Infused Products
Collagen is a protein that is found in our bodies that helps out body stay together. It replaces dead skin cells and gives our skin the strength and elasticity it needs. As we age and collagen production slows down our skin begins to produce wrinkles, weak cartilage in the joins and sagging skin. You can actually buy lotions and night creams that contain collagen. Your skin absorbs the protein molecules in order to revitalize your skin. Creams that claim to firm up your skin usually contain some amount of collagen and really, the more the better. Professional skin care products are best if you need serious skin care. - Stop Sun Bathing
It’s hard, everyone loves that bronze glow but that beautiful tan is proof that your skin has been damaged. Ultra violet rays target the elastic fibers in your skin and damage them, causing wrinkles to appear. The sun also causes sun sports or liver spots on your skin that are unappealing as well as potentially dangerous if they are signs of skin cancer. Even if you have previously done lots of sun bathing, stop now. When you do have to be out in the sun, always wear sunscreen. Lots of lotions contain an SPF factors in them. - Stop Smoking
Smoking causes the blood flow to slow down in your body, especially above the heart. Decreased blood flow to the face causes premature wrinkles. Not only that but there are toxic chemicals in the smoke that also decrease nutrients in the skin. Often times, smokers unknowingly squint their eyes in order to keep the smoke out and this causes crows feet and droopy skin. If you want to protect your youthful skin, put down the cigarettes! - Eat Right
You are what you eat. You’ve heard it before. If you don’t consume the right nutrients and vitamins, your skin will pay the price. Vitamins like C and E are not produced by your body naturally so you need to supplement those needs with food. Fruits and vegetables are really where are the nutrients for skin lie. Biotin and Vitamin A are great sources of health for your skin.
Following these four tips will help you even if you can’t always use professional skin care products. You don’t want to look back and think about all the ways that you could have protected your skin when you had the chance. As much as possible, use good lotions especially on your hands and face because this seems to be what wrinkles first. You may be able to stave off the aging process for a few years if you will take care of your skin now and continue to do so for the rest of your life. Small things like taking make up off before bed and moisturizing will go a long way to helping you keep your youthful skin alive. Even though right now it may seem unnecessary, if you keep up with a good skin care regime now, you’ll be grateful you did later on.
